Uganda part II

So, I've been at my placement now for over a week. The first night I suffered from culture shock haha. 300 orphans all day..everyday. The orphanage needs a lot. They lack clothes, food, sleeping area, a place to eat, medical, supplies and...pretty much everything. I gave them their first still art class. It was awesome, and these kids were so good! They pick up on everything and anything you teach them and they do not forget. They LOVE to learn! I love that an they laugh and smile and are just happy kids. I adore them. I wish there were more I could give them.

I've gotten used to pooping and peeing in a hole in the ground and bucket bathing. A shower here is considered a luxury. I went white water rafting on the Nile yesterday with other volunteers and...saw death hahaha but! 5 hours of crashing into waves...flying out of the raft, getting caught in waves...was pretty damn awesome, and also...it was the effing NILE! Worth every penny!Ive made it around to some other places here, checked out other schools and orphanages and food places. Depending on how you look at it, there is either very little to do here,or a lot. I see a lot and I am getting out as much as I can.

I've caught a bit of a bug and needed medication, lost my voice haha ( which is probably a blessing to the other volunteers) but am getting better each day. Love the music here, and fun observation, on the taxis...they love to listen to Kenny Rogers ha. Also..me and Boda Boda's <3 I ride on them alllll the time now, I love them.

The other volunteers are so great. It was so goo to see them all again this weekend. Really I picked a good time to go. i <3 Them and I am glad to have gotten the chance to meet them. It is weird how that works. We come from all over yet once we met the first day it was like we already knew one another. We come for the same reason I guess, it is just a natural, sincere connection to have. Very unique and very life changing. Brilliant string theory. <3

Cheers!

First Day In Uganda

I flew into Entebbe last night where I was picked up and escorted ten minutes away to a backpackers hostel. The bunks were covered in mosquito nets and I shared the room with 2 Canadian backpackers who are backpacking East Africa and 5 girls from Denmark who are here for 3 months studying nursing. They were all really awesome. I also had my first beer "Nile" haha. Typical American! lol.

I was picked up in the morning and went through Kampala and an hr away to Mukono where I am now. I am with 2 other volunteers from the UK and will meet more tonight. Exploring Mukono is really a treasure. The people here love to greet and shake your hand. I will soon ride on a Buda Buda ( most efficient way of transportation, ride on the back of a bike ha ) In order to get the my village where the orphanage is that I will teach at is by taxi then by Buda Buda. The village is Golomolo village and I will have my own place to stay in the village on a quite farm. I am excited to see it and meet the children! What an exciting journey this will be! I will also make my way to Junji, a city in Uganda that has water rafting and from what I hear...good indian food! Hell ya! Nom nom!

I am sure to come back with a lot of stories to make up for time. That is all for now! Cheers! <3
